False and Malicious Propaganda Against Demra Journalist, Condemned by Sangbadik Oikya Parishad (SAOP)*
By Our Correspondent:
A responsible journalist from Demra, an industrial area in the capital, has been accused of being targeted by baseless and malicious propaganda on social media and an online news portal (DailyNewsbd). The allegations, which violate journalistic ethics, include serious accusations of extortion, drug dealing, and prostitution against the journalist, leading to strong condemnation and protest.
It is alleged that the online news portal published such false and defamatory news for financial gain. The propaganda falsely accuses the journalist of being involved in these antisocial and criminal activities. However, investigations have revealed that he has long been vocal against these activities and working to combat them.
Furthermore, false information has been presented about the journalist’s personal life. The published report claims that he has been married four times, while in reality, he is married to only one woman.
Strongly protesting this incident, the Sangbadik Oikya Parishad (SAOP) said, “Such false news and propaganda are tarnishing the journalist community.” The organization added, “We demand legal action against those who are trying to defame journalists for personal vendettas and political purposes.”
The organization further stated, “Such baseless allegations and personal attacks against a responsible journalist are a gross violation of journalistic principles.”
The Sangbadik Oikya Parishad (SAOP) has termed this incident “a heinous example of yellow journalism” and strongly condemned it, urging the relevant authorities to take immediate action against those involved.
When asked about the matter, the General Secretary and Vice President of the Sangbadik Oikya Parishad (SAOP) said, “We believe that prompt action should be taken to protect the honor and dignity of professional journalists. If strict action is not taken against those who want to dishonor journalists, such incidents may increase in the future.”
In the wake of this incident, journalists and civil society representatives in the Demra area have expressed their outrage and called upon the government to take action against the online news portal. They have called on journalists to work together and stand against the propaganda.
